Ah, tis the rainy season in south central Kansas. The Cowskin Creek (don't ask me why they call it that) runs through our neighborhood and is prone to flooding. This isn't as bad as the big one of 1998 and the water has receded about three feet from yesterday, but it still provided some good photo ops. Chuck took these pics from the bridge that crosses the creek on 13th. Our house is high enough to not be in danger of the overflowing creek but we do keep a sharp ear out for our sump pump. Chuck installed a second pump yesterday for out peace of mind. If the power goes off, then I guess we are hosed, so to speak. Fortunately that doesn't happen often here, I suppose because the power lines are buried.

Very pretty even though a bit scary. Glad to hear you shouldn't be in much "danger" should it rise anymore. We got a lot of rain yesterday and it was supposed to last until tomorrow, but nothing so far today. Weather weenies...
Well, with the water high and looking brown in the first pic, it sort of looks like leather, maybe that's why it's called the cowskin??
Years ago this would have been an occasion to launch the good ship SallySue. Who knows what folks would pay for a swamp tour?
HAHAHA!! SallySue! I had almost forgotten. Yes, that was quite the water craft.
